Back in 2019, thanks to relentless public pressure from activists, campaigners, and communities, as well as mounting evidence of the dangers, including earthquakes, the government was forced to put the brakes on fracking.

That moratorium was a monumental win for people power, a clear signal that the public will not be ignored.
Frack Free United was at the heart of this fight, driving our demands into political conferences and #parliament and insisting on a complete ban on all forms of unconventional onshore Oil and Gas extraction.
That victory stands as proof that when we stand together, we can protect the countryside and the places we love.

But here we are in 2025, staring down old threats in new guises. Oil and Gas applications are sneaking back into North Yorkshire and East Yorkshire, there are planning extensions in Lancashire, and court cases down South.

Reform UK and some Conservatives are desperately pushing fracking as their flagship energy policy, despite rock-solid evidence that it’s a non-starter for the UK and would only leave us with higher bills.

Our communities aren’t fooled. We know what’s at stake: earthquakes rattling homes, air pollution, water at risk, round-the-clock noise, and heavy lorries turning peaceful countryside into industrial zones. The cost is too high for our rural communities; our health, our environment, our way of life.

The facts are on our side, but the debate is still drowning in spin, vague definitions, and legal loopholes exploited by powerful lobbyists. (Please sign this petition today to help us close the loopholes)

Government language is vague, projects are touted under the so-called banner of “energy security”, and transparency is likely to be brushed aside. The result? Communities forced to fight giant companies on their own, left without meaningful protection from the very government meant to stand up for them.

Frack Free United’s message couldn’t be clearer: No more fudge, no more loopholes, no more half-baked promises.

Only a full, unshakeable ban on all onshore fossil fuel extraction will deliver the certainty that affected rural communities and the country need. That’s how we show our commitment to clean, renewable energy and put an end to threats against our countryside, once and for all.

This is bigger than party lines. This is about people, communities, our health, the future of our landscapes, and the planet; it’s about standing up to vested interests and demanding real leadership. Across Britain, communities have spoken, loud and clear: they want clarity, safety, and a government with the guts to do the right thing.

We demand action, not more excuses or empty words. The evidence is overwhelming, the public’s resolve is unbreakable, and the time for bold leadership is now. Let’s finish the job: a UK-wide, irreversible ban on onshore fossil fuels—a #FrackFree , #fossilfree , united future for all of us.
