Dear Friends

On 14 th July, a nationally important legal case will be heard in the High Court that could have a profound effect on how onshore oil and gas companies operate in the UK. Shockingly, the Government is turning a blind eye to whether companies will be able to clean up their sites after they have finished drilling, which means taxpayers could be left with a huge clean-up bill if companies go bankrupt.

Yorkshire resident Eddie Thornton is bringing a case against the Oil and Gas Authority (OGA) to challenge its due diligence over the sale of Third Energy. The case accuses the OGA of failing in their legal duty to prevent potentially financially unstable companies from taking on drilling operations, which means that the public could be left to pick up the tab for a huge clean up bill.

To find out more about the case, and why it could be a game-changer for the onshore oil and gas industry, please visit Eddie’s Crowdjustice page.

A victory in court would have national significance, as any future transactions by licenced oil and gas companies across the UK would be required to undergo proper financial testing and assessment. Companies could also be forced to use their remaining resources on clean-up rather than leaving the bill with the taxpayer or landowner.

Put simply, this case could fundamentally change how oil and gas companies operate in the UK – BUT WE NEED YOUR HELP TO MAKE THIS HAPPEN.

Eddie and his hard-working legal team have already received generous financial support from hundreds of people across the country, but they still need an extra £21,000 to pay for court and legal costs. Because of the case’s  importance, a £6,000 pot has been pledged to match further donations which means YOUR DONATION WILL HAVE TWICE AS MUCH IMPACT.

There are only 10 days left until the court case, so please click on the LINK below to make your donation. And remember, YOUR DONATION WILL BE DOUBLED! Match funding for your donation will be added to the CrowdJustice page just before the court hearing.
